Terms of use
The plain-language version of how Slate Notes is meant to be used. The formal terms are still to be written.

Draft for review. This is not legal advice. It is written from how Slate Notes is designed today. Anything marked to confirm still needs a decision, or a lawyer’s review, before launch.
Using Slate Notes
Slate Notes is a notebook for Calculus I with a study aid built in. A Check tells you whether each step you wrote follows from the one before it.
- A Check comes from a math engine, not from guessing. It can still be wrong, and “can’t verify yet” is an honest answer when it can’t settle a step.
- Use it to learn. When a result and your course disagree, your instructor’s answer is the one that counts.
- Hints come first, one at a time. The worked fix is always your call.
Your notes
Your notebooks, pages and handwriting are yours, and they stay on your iPad. We only handle what you choose to send: what you lasso when you tap Check or Graph, a page’s handwriting if you use Check This Page’s Writing, the practice answers you hand in, and what you ask Chalk. The privacy policy has the details and the retention list.
Checks and plans
- You get 30 free Checks every month, and at launch 200 practice answers a month too. One Check on one lassoed problem is one Check, and each practice problem you hand in to be checked will use one practice answer.
- Hints, Graph, Watch and questions to Chalk never use a Check.
- When you run out, you keep the hints you have already seen, plus Graph, Watch and all of your notes. Checks come back when your month resets.
- Nothing is for sale yet. At launch, an Exam Pass will add 120 Checks and 800 practice answers for one exam, for up to 30 days, at $14.99. You pay once through the App Store, and it never renews.
- Exam Pass terms. The formal wording for buying, refunds and restoring a pass, with counsel’s review.to confirm
School rules
Slate Notes is built to help you find your own mistake, not to hand you answers. You are responsible for following your school’s and instructor’s rules about the help you use, and for the work you hand in.
Age
Checks are for ages 13 and up. If you are under 13, Slate Notes runs in notes-only mode, where nothing leaves your iPad.
- Parent or guardian terms. What applies to young users, with counsel’s review.to confirm
Availability
- Your notes are always safe on your iPad. Checks need a connection.
- Slate Notes is for iPad (iPadOS 18 or later) and made for Apple Pencil. Features will change as it grows, and some of what you see on this site is still being built.
- iCloud sync and backup. Not built yet. We will say so plainly when it ships.to confirm
